Picture Frame: Glass vs. Acrylic

When it comes to purchasing picture frames [as with any other item], it is necessary to put the material used in making them into consideration. Two of the commonly used glazing materials employed in the production of frames are Glass and Acrylic. It is in view of this that we have chosen to compare these two sets of picture frames.

Glass Picture Frames

Glass frames exist in a range of thickness and there are basically two types- the Reflective and non-Reflective glass frames. They are usually integrated with Ultraviolet filtering element in order to enhance their durability

         Pros

  • Glass frames are not so susceptible to scratching.
  • Glass picture frames are relatively workable.
  • Unlike acrylic frames; glass frames are less static thus the photos are less likely to stick to the frame’s surface.

          Cons

  • Glass frames are quite heavy.
  • They can easily get broken or damaged- they are fragile.

Acrylic Pictures Frames

Acrylic picture frames are usually lightweight and Acrylic also come in varying degree of sizes.

        Pros

  • Acrylic frames are good for displaying large(r) photos.
  • They give about the most transparent view of photos.
  • Their lightweight nature makes them easy to transport.
  • It is not susceptible to breaking.
  • This set of frames are commendably durable
  • Compared with glass, acrylic frames are less expensive.

Cons

  • Acrylic picture frames scratch easily.
  • Acrylic frames are somewhat expensive since they are obtained from petroleum.

So, which is of them is better? - We believe this is a question that every individual should be able to answer based on the resources he has at hand, and what he hopes to achieve with the picture frame. Notwithstanding, we would like to tilt to the side of the acrylic frames.
